Farley Funeral Home History

In 1964, Jay W. Farley, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, MA, purchased the Victorian home of Attorney Francis X. Greeley at 123 Walnut Street with the dream of starting his own funeral home.  After several months of renovations, on February 22, 1965, the Farley Funeral Home opened for business.

In 1973, Jay had the foresight to see that his small Victorian was not where the future of his business lay.  He purchased the home and greenhouses of Glen and Virginia Lyerla at 358 Park Street, on Route 27 in Stoughton and level the building. He then had a brand new facility built on a single level, with ample parking.  This venture was risky, but worth it.  The new facility opened on Father's Day in 1974.  Since that day, the reputation and business has grown steadily each year. In 1996, a three car garage and office space was added to the building and in 2012 the interior was renovated and redesigned into two large viewing rooms.

Jay has 4 sons, Michael, Mark, Jeffrey and Jay, Jr. and he was fortunate to have two of his sons join him in the business.  In 1991, Jeffrey, a graduate of Providence College, joined the firm; he became a licensed Funeral Director in 1993.  In 1993, Jay's son Mark, a graduate of Villanova University, joined the firm and became licensed in 1995.  Both are active in area activities.

Jeffrey and Mark have taken over the day to day operations of the business.  Although he is no longer active in daily operations, Jay remains active in the area and is available for consultation.

In 1997, Mark Farley married Brenda Flanagan and they have 3 children, John, Katherine and Ryan and live in Walpole.  In 2003, Jeffrey Farley married Andrea Gemelli. They have 3 children, Sean, Bridget and Erin and live in Stoughton.

The Farley Family remains dedicated to those families they serve and have pledged to continue the tradition of dignified and dependable services for all faiths.
