Zelia M. (Medeiros) Tavares, 83, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Copley at Stoughton on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of 55 years of the late Jose M. Tavares. Daughter of the late João F. and Maria A. (Jordão) Medeiros, she was born and raised in Ginetes, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal. Zelia came to Stoughton in 1969. She worked at Corcoran Shoe in Stoughton for over 30 years before working for various companies in the area until her retirement many years ago. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and watching television but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Zelia is survived by her children, Fatima M. Pereira and her husband Steve of Norton and Filomena T. Rego and her husband Manuel and Dennis M. Tavares all of Stoughton. She was the grandmother of Sally Junkins, Peter Pereira, Jeffrey Rego, Robert Rego and Alexis Tavares and the great-grandmother of Victoria Junkins, Travis Pereira, Dylan Junkins and Lillian Rego. She was the sister of Custodio Medeiros and his wife Maria of Stoughton, Carlos Medeiros and his wife Nancy of Waltham and Alvaro Medeiros and Eduarda Pavao both of the Azores, Portugal. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27), Stoughton on Tuesday, July 30 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 5-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
