Wladyslaw "Walter" Stasiewicz, 93, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Thursday, February 14. He was the husband of the late Adele (Dadak) Stasiewicz. He was born on April 21, 1919 in the small village of Knyszyn in former Eastern Poland. On April 13, 1940, Wladyslaw, his mother and brother were taken from their home and sent to Siberia by the Soviet Union. Wladyslaw and his older brother Edward took the opportunity to join the Polish Army in Kazakhstan. He was officially in the Polish Army from May of 1941 to February of 1948. Under General Anders, the 2nd Corps marched via the Persian Corridor into Iran and subsequently the Middle East. They eventually landed in Italy, where they played a role in capturing Monte Cassino during the Battle of Monte Cassino. After World War II ended, Wladyslaw emigrated to England then to Argentina. In 1953 he came to the United States and settled in Stoughton. Mr. Stasiewicz worked at Vulcan Shoe in Brockton for many years before retiring 20 years ago. He was a former member and secretary of the Polish White Eagle Club in Brockton.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Stasiewicz was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his nephew Marek and niece Maria Stasiewicz and their family as well as sister in law Bozena Stasiewicz and her family, nephew Jurek Stasiewicz and Jacek Stasiewicz and their families, all residing in Poland. He is also survived by many cousins of the Kotlik family, Dembrowsky family and Dadak family.

Visitation will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, February 19 from 9-10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Walter's memory may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
