William M. "Mike" Steers, 70, a longtime resident of Easton, died in Stoughton on Thursday, January 4, 2018 after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Nancy G. (Weldon) Steers. Son of the late Robert W. and Margaret (Liddell) Steers, he was born in Norwood and raised in Dedham. Mike was a graduate of Dedham High School, Class of 1965 and attended Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He resided in Easton for the past 40 years. Mike was an engineer and inspector at the MBTA for 30 years before retiring 15 years ago. He was a Past Grand Knight and Rib-off Champion at the Knights of Columbus, Council 200 in Stoughton. He was a member of the VFW Post 1645 and Past Commander of the AMVETS, Post 1977, both in Stoughton. He enjoyed carpentry, playing golf, cars, cooking, cribbage, horseshoes and music but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandson.
Mike is survived by his children, Doreen F. Ward and her husband Michael of N. Easton and Michael W. Steers and his partner Neal Fitzgerald of Wellfleet, as well as his grandson, Max Ward. He was the brother of Sarah "Sally" Clark of Plainville, Emily "Nancy" Bruno and her husband Louie of Dedham, Margaret Cutler of Hingham, Pauline Weeks and her husband Tom of Norfolk, Elizabeth Regan of N. Easton, MaryAnn Campisano and her husband Paul of Mansfield and the late Judith DeLaiarro and Robert Steers. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Dianne Ingemi of Stoughton and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase St., Easton on Tuesday, January 9 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27), Stoughton on Monday from 3-7 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory may be made to Home Base, MGH Development Office, 125 Nashua St., Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114.
