William V. Palizzolo, 80, died Saturday, March 17, at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was the husband of Geraldine (Severi) Palizzolo. Born and raised in Boston he lived in Avon for the last 54 years. Mr. Palizzolo was a Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps, and was awarded the Purple Heart for combat wounds received during the Korean War. He was a Commander of VFW Post 8892 in Avon and served on the Finance committee for the town of Avon for 8 years. He worked for over 40 years as the General Merchandise Manager for the Stop & Shop Company. Bill was a world traveler who enjoyed trips to Asia, Europe, South America and the U.S. He loved to play cards and was a frequent visitor to casinos around the world. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his two sons, William A. and his wife Leonore of Contoocook, NH and Marc J. and his wife Doris of Avon. He was the cherished grandfather of Edward, William, Ryan, Michael, James, Joseph, Lea and Nicholas. He was the beloved brother of Edward, James, Robert, Theresa Raso, Maryann Kulpan and Elisabeth Scales. He was survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Ciro and Margaret Palizzolo. He was the son-in-law of the late Arthur Severi; and is survived by his mother- in- law, Rose Severi of Gulfport, FL.
Visiting hours from 4-8 PM on Thursday at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton. Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, at 9:45 AM on Friday followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Michael's Church, Avon at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:15 PM on Friday. In lieu of flowers donations in Bill's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd.
