William C. Murphy, 82, died at home in Stoughton on Tuesday, January 1 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Virginia I. (Curler) Murphy of 60 years. Born and educated in Boston, he was a resident of Stoughton for 40 years. Mr. Murphy was an U.S. Navy Veteran serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a metallurgist at the Watertown Arsenal for 35 years before retiring in 1980. He then worked as a shipper-receiver for Data Bank IMX in Canton for 20 years until he became ill earlier this year. Mr. Murphy was a longtime member of the VFW Post 1645 in Stoughton and was Past Commander for 3 years. He was an avid golfer.
Mr. Murphy was the devoted father of Marion V. Ilacqua and her husband Tony of Milton and Robert W. Murphy and his wife Kathy of Randolph and grandfather of Michael and Timothy Murphy both of Bridgewater. He was the brother of Robert Murphy and his wife Arlene of E. Dennis, Irene Zielinski and her husband Richard of OH and the late Eleanor Shea and Patricia Hintz. He was the brother-in-law of Theresa and Harold Fisher. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, January 5 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.
