William J. Merriam, 81, died Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Southeast Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Easton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Beatrice F. (Hagerty) Merriam. Born in Boston, he was raised in Roxbury and attended Boston Schools. He was a WWII Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Merriam worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for Modern Electroplating in Roxbury for 45 years, retiring 10 years ago. In his free time, he enjoyed carpentry.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Judith A. Merriam of Stoughton, Richard W. Merriam of Holbrook, Stephen J. Merriam of N. Attleboro, Kevin J. Merriam of Stoughton and the late William. He was the brother of Warren Merriam of Danvers, Clara Merriam of Roxbury and the late Arthur Merriam, Bruce Merriam and Eleanor Duffy. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, January 9 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton, at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Monday 4-8 PM. Donations in his name may be made to Hospice Services of MA, 577 Main St, Wareham, 02571. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
