William J. McKelligan, III, 77, died peacefully at Kent General Hospital in Dover, DE, on Sunday, February 26, 2017. He was the husband of the late Barbara L. (Murphy) McKelligan. Son of the late William J. McKelligan, Jr. and Elsa M. (Andersen) McKelligan, he was born in Boston and raised in Roslindale. Bill was a Private 1st Class in the US Army and a Veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was a resident of Stoughton for 51 years before moving to Magnolia, DE 2 years ago. Bill was an international representative for the Communication Workers of America for 44 years before retiring in 2006. An avid skier, Bill was a member of the Flying 50 Ski Club at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, New Hampshire. He enjoyed traveling, photography, thrill rides, dogs and flying vintage airplanes, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. McKelligan is survived by his children, Mark J. McKelligan and his wife Laura of Alexandria, VA, James M. McKelligan and his wife Michelle of Magnolia, DE and Kimberly A. Cook and her husband Tom of Assonet, as well as his grandchildren, Madison, Kealy, Brenden, Ian, Ryan, Meghan, Keegan, Aiden and Declan. He was the brother of Linda Harlfinger of Port St. Lucie, FL, Neil McKelligan of Canton and the late Sandra Jennings and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, March 6 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 2-5 PM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
