William J. McGaffigan

William J. McGaffigan, Sr., 75, died Saturday Morning, March 22, at the Colony House Nursing Home in Abington after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Ann C. (MacDougall). Born in Malden, he was educated in Malden Schools and was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School, Class of 1950. He also attended Boston University. Mr. McGaffigan was a WWII Veteran of the US Army. He was a longtime resident of Brockton, before moving to Pembroke a few years ago. He worked as a salesman for M.S. Walker Company for many years, retiring 15 years ago. Mr. McGaffigan was a longtime Massachusetts High School Hockey Referee. In 2002, he was inducted to the MIAA Hall of Fame for his service. He was a member of the Irish American Club in Malden. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time at the beach, golf, hockey and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children; Donna Cronin of Abington, William J. McGaffigan Jr. of Brockton, Susan Carlson and James McGaffigan both of Pembroke. He was the brother of Patrick J. "Joe" McGaffigan of W. Roxbury, Mary Towle, Rose Sullivan and Elizabeth all of Malden and Celia "Pee Wee" Albert of ME, formerly of Wakefield. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, March 26 at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday 5-8 PM. Donations in Bill's memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Burial will be at VA National Cemetery, Bourne.
