William P. Hammel

William P. Hammel, Jr., 62, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home in East Falmouth on Sunday, December 23. He was the husband of Sandra L. (Jones) Hammel. Son of William P. and Barbara A. (Homer) Hammel of Stoughton, he was born in Brookline. He was a resident of Stoughton for most of his life and graduated from Stoughton High School, Class of 1968. He resided in East Falmouth for the past 2 years. Mr. Hammel served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a Veteran of the Vietnam Era. He worked for the Stoughton DPW for 40 years, retiring 2 years ago as the Assistant Superintendent. Mr. Hammel was a member of the VFW Post 1645 in Stoughton. He enjoyed fishing, boating, NASCAR and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hammel is survived by his children, Jason W. Hammel of Brockton, Erik E. Hammel of Troy, NY and Casey L. Hammel of Stoughton. He was the brother of Gerald Hammel of Little Compton, RI, Michael Hammel of FL, Cynthia Louko and Donald Hammel both of Easton and Francis Hammel of Stoughton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday, December 27 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in William's memory may be sent to Hope Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
