William P. Hammel

William P. Hammel, 84, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Sunday, June 1. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Homer) Hammel for the past 65 years. Born and raised in Dedham, he was educated in Dedham schools. He was a resident of Stoughton for the past 60 years. Mr. Hammel was a Seaman in the U.S. Navy and a Veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Yellowstone AD-27, nicknamed Old Faithful. Mr. Hammel owned Barbara Ann's Poultry Farm in Stoughton for 15 years before being the Animal Control Officer in Stoughton for over 15 years. He retired in 1986. He was the Past Commander of the VFW Post 1645 in Stoughton. He enjoyed fishing, boating, wintering in Florida and working with animals.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hammel was the father of Gerald Hammel of Little Compton, RI, Michael Hammel of Micco, FL, Cynthia Louko and her husband Steven of Easton, Donald Hammel and Francis Hammel both of Stoughton and the late William P. Hammel, Jr. He was the brother of Thomas Hammel of Natick and the late John and Francis Hammel and Catherine Vickery. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Monday, June 16 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 2-5 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in William's memory may be sent to the VFW Post 1645, 837 Washington St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
