William J. Dumas, 78, a longtime resident of Canton, died at Caritas Norwood Hospital on Thursday, October 4 after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of 55 years of Madeline (Damiano) Dumas. Born in East Boston, he was a graduate of East Boston Schools. He was a resident of Canton for 42 years. Mr. Dumas was a route salesman for Melotone Vending for 25 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sons of Italy both in Canton. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, playing cards, traveling and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Dumas is survived by his children, Annette M. Matthews and Michelle Y. Loughran both of Canton, as well as his grandchildren, Gina McCann, Kirsten and Matthew Bernstein and his great-grandchildren, Erin and Paul McCann. He was the brother of James Simpson of NY and the late Godfrey and Francis Dumas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Wednesday, October 10 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Gerard Majella Church, Canton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
