William Joseph “Joe” “Potsie” Dolan, 78, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Thursday, March 30, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Dianne J. (Avila) Dolan for 52 years. Son of the late Francis and Cecilia (Daniel) Dolan, he was born in Boston and raised in West Roxbury. He was a graduate of Roslindale High School, Class of 1963. He had been a resident of Stoughton since 1971. Joe along with his wife Dianne were the owners of J&D Floor Covering in Stoughton for 25 years before he retired in 2011. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #200 in Stoughton and a Past Grand Knight for 7 years. Joe coached Stoughton Little League for several years and won the AA Town Championship in 1984. His greatest joys were spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who he enjoyed taking to watch the trains, watching their hockey, softball, and soccer games, track meets and spending time at his family’s vacation home in Bristol, NH where he loved boating on Newfound Lake.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his children, William J. Dolan, Jr. and his wife Anne of Derry, NH, Brian F. Dolan and his wife Johnna of North Easton and Tracy I. Conforti and her husband David of Stoughton as well as his grandchildren, James Dolan, Jackson Dolan, Megan Dolan, Briley Dolan, Blake Conforti, London Dolan and Aiden Conforti. He was the brother of Marie Driscoll of Dedham, Robert Dolan of Canton, Barbara Macone of Foxboro and the late Francis Dolan, Madeline Carson, Paul Dolan, John “Jack” Dolan, Theresa Pursley and Patricia Manning. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, April 5 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday, April 4 from 4-7 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe‘s memory may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Council #200, PO Box 355, Stoughton, MA 02072.
