William J. "Ironman" Coulter, 68, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton on Monday, September 30, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late William H. and Catherine M. (Flynn) Coulter. Bill was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1969. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Bill served on the Massachusetts State Police for the past 45 years, achieving the rank of Detective Lieutenant. He was a member of the Massachusetts State Police Commissioned Officer's Association. He was a longtime cancer survivor. Bill was passionate about Cops for Kids with Cancer, where he was the Chairman. His other passion was physical fitness, completing over 20 Ironman Triathlons and 150 marathons, including 36 consecutive Boston Marathons and every Disney World Marathon.
Bill is survived by his siblings, Nancy A. Puckett of Avon, Jean L. Rachlen of South Easton, Joyce M. Coulter of Florida and Mary T. Coulter-Bennett and her husband Steven Bennett, Ret. MSP of Stoughton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Church, 560 Page St., Stoughton on Monday, October 7 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be held at St. James Church on Sunday, October 6 from 3-7 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to Cops for Kids with Cancer, Inc., PO Box 850956, Braintree, MA 02185.
