Willard "Billy" Irving Tansey, Jr., 69, of Florida, formerly of Bridgewater, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 2. Born in Canton December 5, 1939, son of the late Willard I. and Mary (Arthur) Tansey. Raised in Stoughton, he was a graduate of Brockton Trade School, Class of 1957. He took his trade and began working in construction building homes. He later became a machinist, spending many years at Rofor Machine Company in Brockton and then LeCam Machine in Rockland until retirement. He had been a resident of Bridgewater for 35 years before moving to Florida.
He enjoyed listening to music, fishing, playing cards with friends, hunting with friends and his son-in-law George and splitting wood for the winter. He also enjoyed making furniture and restoring old pieces. He loved working in his vegetable and flower gardens and spending vacations with family and friends.
In addition to his former wife of 35 years, Greta Tansey, he is survived by his four daughters, Donna Tansey of Harrisville, RI, Diane Loftus of Bridgewater, Dale Brenza of Raynham and Deidra Tansey of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Ryan and Haley Loftus, Jarrid Tansey and Nicolle Brenza. In addition he had four sisters, Shirley Headley of WA, Muriel Jackson of Brockton, Ruth Wanning of FL and the late Marilyn LeBrun; step-siblings James Pattangall of Whitman, Kathleen Pattangall of NC and Patricia Carlson of Chatham; only surviving aunt and uncle, Shirley and Raymond Arthur of Salisbury. He leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Sunday, April 19 at 1 PM. Visiting Hours prior from 11 AM-1 PM.
