Walter E. “The Wiz” McAuley Jr., 90, a resident of Easton, died peacefully at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston on Thursday, January 30, 2025. He was the husband of the late Patricia F. (Washwell) McAuley. Son of the late Walter E. and Helen (Jasinski) McAuley, he was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester. He was educated in Boston schools. Walter served in the U.S. Navy as a fireman and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He resided in Stoughton for 50 years before moving to Easton 13 years ago. He was a truck driver and owner of McAuley Leasing in Stoughton for 40 years before retiring 30 years ago. He was also a member of Local 25 in Boston for many years. He enjoyed painting but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Walter is survived by his children, Patricia Raymond and her husband Robert “Biff” of Palm Harbor, FL, Catherine Doherty and her late husband Patrick of Stoughton, Walter E. “Butch” McAuley III and his wife Denise of Stoughton and William J. McAuley and his husband Charles Dunne of Easton. He was the grandfather of Cristin Doherty, Caitlin Vacca and her husband Anthony, Matthew McAuley and his wife Ruthie, Erin Kelley, Michael Raymond, Brian Trayers and his wife Stephanie and Rebecca Trayers. He was the great-grandfather of Haley, James, Mia, Nicholas, Sean, Jaxon, Rocco, Justin, Jayson and Cameron and the great-great-grandfather of Dominick. He was the brother of Dorothy Marcelonis of Norwood, Jack McAuley of Stoughton, Paul McAuley of Pembroke and Janet McAuley of Weymouth and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Monday, February 3 from 4-7 PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 4 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton, at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Walter’s memory may be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839 (https://www.redcross.org/).
