Waldemar "Walter" Gustas, 82, died Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of 52 years of Alvernia M. (Steel) Gustas. Born in Lithuania, he was raised and educated in Lithuania and Germany and graduated from high school in Germany. He came to the States in 1956 and settled in Stoughton. He was a Veteran of the US Army and served in Korea. After his Honorable Discharge in 1961, he settled in Brockton and recently moved to West Bridgewater. In 1969, he started Brockton Fence Company, a company he owned and operated until he semi retired in 2012 when he handed the business over to his son Charlie. They are now celebrating it's 50th year. He was a gifted linguist and spoke several languages. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, watching soccer and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Charles Anthony Gustas and his wife Barbara of West Bridgewater. He was the grandfather of Charles N. Gustas, 2nd Lt. USMC. Walter was the brother of Paul Gustas of Mashpee, Mary Ensins of Canton and the late Herman Gustas, Benjamin Gustas and Elena Raudonaitis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at 12 Noon. Visiting Hours prior to the services from 10 AM- 12 PM.
