Virginia L. (Dykeman) Lyerla, 91, died Tuesday, June 5 at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home in Stoughton after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Glenn C. "Chief" Lyerla, Sr. Born in Dedham, she was a lifelong resident of Stoughton and a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1934. She also was a graduate of Maltby School of Business. Along with her late husband Glenn, she owned Glenn's Greenhouses in Stoughton for over 20 years. After selling the business, she continued working until age 80 at Old Colony Elderly Services in Brockton and at the Garland Corp in Brockton. In her free time, Mrs. Lyerla enjoyed traveling to see her family.
She is survived by her children, Glenn C. Lyerla, Jr. of NH, Kathryn D. Richards and John K. Lyerla both of Middleboro, Janice A. Goodger of CO, William D. Lyerla of Hyannis and Richard K. Lyerla of NH. She was the sister of Betty Rubel of Stoughton, William Dykeman of MS, Peggy Johnson of FL, Jack Dykeman of ME and the late Grace Cohenno, Arthur "Buddy" Dykeman, Louis Dykeman, and James Dykeman. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, June 8 at 11 AM Visiting Hours Thursday 5-8 PM. Donations in Virginia's name may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
