Virginia T. "Fudgy" Batte

Virginia T. “Fudgy” (Fedorchuk) Batte, 98, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a short illness, surrounded by her beloved family. Born in Norwood, she was a graduate of St. Mary’s School in Stoughton and was the last surviving member of the Class of 1944 at Stoughton High School. In 1950, she married Willam A. Batte, a guy she had been chasing for years, and together they raised 7 beloved children and enjoyed 43 years of marriage, before Bill’s passing in 1993. Fudgy ran a daycare out of her home in Stoughton for over 25 years where she tended to the children with love and humor and also was a longtime School Bus driver for Unda’s Bus in Stoughton, where she was the first female driver, and Connolly’s Bus in Canton. She retired several years ago. Fudgy was known for her wit, personality, spirit and her ability to tell jokes with a twinkle in her eye. She enjoyed a good word search puzzle and could frequently be found cutting coupons, dumpster diving and hosting yard sales. Fudgy enjoyed attending hockey games for all ages and was an avid Boston Sports fan. A long-time communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, she had a deep faith in God. Fudgy was a dedicated friend, a loving mother and devoted grandmother who will be missed by her family. Above all, she loved to be surrounded by her family and her friends.

Fudgy is survived by her children, Teresa Batte and her husband Matt Foreman of Hawaii, George A. Batte and his wife Patricia of Norwell, Patricia Cromwell and her husband Kevin, Susan M. Collins and Michael W. Batte, Sr. and his wife Carolyn all of Stoughton and Nancy J. Zielinski and her husband Edd of AZ, and her daughter-in-law Janice Zani. In addition to her husband Bill, she was predeceased by her son William A. “Butch” Batte, Jr. and her brothers, John Bonda and Adolph Bonda. She was the loving grandmother of William A. “BZ” Batte III, Andrew M. Foreman and his wife Lailah, Michaela O. L. Foreman, William Cromwell and his wife Ally, Benjamin Cromwell and his fiancé Claire Daughters, Spc. Stefan Zielinski, US Army, Nicole Zielinski and her fiancé Austin Bedke, Thomas Zielinski, Kelly D. Collins and her fiancé Gregory Joubert, Delaney S. Collins, Bianca A. Batte and Michael W. Batte, Jr. She was the great-grandmother of Parker M. Cromwell and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Katie Walsh and the ladies at Cornerstone Care, and her personal caretakers Jill Puljanowski, Priscilla Walsh and Debbie Heath.
