Violet Gertrude (Noseworthy) Penney, 87, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully on Thursday, November 14. She was married to the late Charles R. Penney for 63 years. Born and educated in Chelsea, she was a resident of Stoughton for 48 years. She graduated from Burdette School of Business and worked as a secretary for Manton Gallen Mfg. Co., where she met her husband. When Charlie retired Violet "Gert" went to work at Mass. Housing and Finance. Gert was incredibly creative, always sewing and making decorations and crafts. She had the eye of an artist and was known for her fashion sense. She loved the holidays and traveling to Marco Island, FL in the winter. Violet will be missed by all who knew her and her gentle ways will always be remembered.
Violet was the mother of Susanne Ostroff and Charles R. Penney, Jr. both of Stoughton, Arthur P. Penney and the late Richard A. Penney and Patrick J. Penney. She was the sister of Shirley Weatherby, Harry Noseworthy and Jean Sheppard. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Monday, November 18 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 5-8 PM. Interment will be private. Donations in Violet's memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Assn., 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472, www.alz.org/MANH.
