Vasco A. Freitas, 71, died Monday, August 29, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lomba Lajes, Flores, Portugal, he was raised and educated in Flores. Vasco was a Veteran of the Portuguese Army. He moved to the United States in 1970 and settled in Stoughton, where he has lived since that time. Mr. Freitas worked as a Machine Operator for F. C. Phillips, in Stoughton for over 35 years. He was a member of the Luis de Camoes Club and the Holy Ghost Society in Stoughton for many years. Vasco was an avid soccer fan and enjoyed rooting for his favorite team, Sporting Clube of Portugal. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, surfing the internet and spending time with his family, nieces and nephews.
Vasco was the brother of Joao Freitas and Mariana Dias both of Canada, Gilberto Freitas of Stoughton and the late Maria Vasconcelos, Helena Medeiros, Jose Freitas, Francisco Freitas and Norberto Freitas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, September 3, at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday, September 2, from 5-8 PM. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
