Uretha L. (Bryant) Meeks, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 11, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Douglas T. Meeks. Daughter of the late John C. and Lula J. (Faircloth) Bryant, she was born and raised in Fayetteville, NC. She was a resident of Stoughton since 1969. Uretha worked at Morse Shoe in Canton for 5 years before working as an office manager for Cumberland Farms for many years. She retired many years ago. Mrs. Meeks was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Stoughton then the First Congregational Church of Stoughton. She enjoyed crocheting, shopping and traveling but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Uretha was the mother of Dottie L. Rother and her husband Alan of Medfield, Jayne L. Williams and her husband Michael of Stoughton, Glenda A. Atkinson and her husband Jack of Taylor, MI and the late Phil D. Meeks. She was the grandmother of Phil Smith, John Atkinson, III, Kristen Atkinson, Crystal Williams, Thomas Williams, Heather Bishop, Mikayla Williams, Joshua Williams, Cassandra Williams and Mariah Williams and great-grandmother of Jaylen Clancy, Briel Clancy, Madison Williams and Benjamin Bishop. She was the sister of the late Jessie Bryant, Bertie Maguire, Alston Bryant, Sr., Anglus Bryant, Sr. and Alma Coakley and is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from the First Congregational Church, 76 Pierce St., Stoughton on Tuesday, October 16 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Uretha's memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St., W. Bridgewater, MA 02379.
