Thomas J. Shea, 78, died Tuesday, May 2, at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of 57 years of Mary F. (Hastings) Shea. Born in Boston, he was raised in South Boston and a graduate of South Boston schools. Mr. Shea was a resident of East Bridgewater for the past 5 years, previously living in Brockton for 33 years and Hyde Park for 16 years. He worked as an Equipment Installer for Verizon and New England Telephone for 36 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the IBEW Local 2222 and the Telephone Pioneers. He was a former coach in Hyde Park Little League. Mr. Shea was a sports, golf and Red Sox fan who enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Virginia Shea Thurler of Canton, Thomas J. Shea Jr., Brockton FD, of Bridgewater, Theresa L. Castiglia of FL, Michael V. Shea of W. Bridgewater and Christopher A. Shea of Brockton. He was the grandfather of Andrea and Sean Thurler, Kevin and Maureen Castiglia and Alexander T., Grace A., John V., Brendon M. and Stephanie B. Shea. Mr. Shea was the great grandfather of Caley M., Madison M. and Jack T. Shea. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary O'Donnell, Jane Hutchinson, Sr. Elizabeth Shea SND, Patrick T., Daniel F., John J., and Michael V. Shea. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, May 5 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-8 PM. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, W. Roxbury.
