Thomas F. Roche Jr., 84, died May 31, 2018, at his home, after a long period of failing health. He was the devoted husband of 62 years of Lesley A. (Haight) Roche. Born and raised in Brookline, he was a proud graduate of Brookline High School, where he was an all-star in baseball, football and track. Mr. Roche attended Northeastern University until he was drafted into the US Army in 1953. Assigned to the elite Company A – 3rd Regiment Honor Guard of the Army, he was in charge of the Rifle Squad that conducted 21-gun salutes at Arlington National Cemetery. After his military service, he returned home to Brookline and worked as a Civil Engineer for the Town of Brookline for over 32 years, retiring in 1989. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 55 years. He coached youth baseball and football for several years. Tom was a member of the American Legion in Stoughton. He was a die hard Boston Sports fan who enjoyed woodworking, gardening, doing yardwork, boating, fishing and spending time in Wareham and spending time with his family.
Tom was the father of Thomas F. Roche III and his wife Barbara of Brockton, Janet A. Ayer and Lynda A. Roche both of Stoughton and the late Lesley D, Roche. He was the proud Grandfather of Raymond J. "RJ" Pomerleau, Jr., Richard LaFrance, Lucas Pomerleau, Thomas F. Roche IV and Emily Roche. He was the great grandfather of Myles and Dexter Pomerleau.
Tom was the beloved brother of Claire Fitzgerald of Centerville, Ma, Dorothy Manning of Wakefield, Ma, and the late Margaret Frase and the late Barbara Hodgkins. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.
Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, June 4, at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be Sunday 3-6 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
