Thomas D. Packard, 87, a resident of Billerica, died at Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley in Billerica on Friday, November 9. He was the husband of the late Catherine T. (Lyons) Packard. Born in Boston, he was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge Rindge Tech and Northeastern University. Mr. Packard was a Machinist's Mate 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy and a Veteran of World War II. He was a resident of Billerica for 2 years after living in Stoughton for 58 years. Mr. Packard was a mechanical engineer and vice president at Bird Machine Company in S. Walpole for 38 years before retiring in 1990. He has a patent for a paper creper. He was a member of the Happy Squares Square Dancing Club and enjoyed reading, traveling, chess, square dancing and reunions of the USS Thatcher DD514.
Mr. Packard is survived by his children, Jean L. Packard and Gail M. Walsh both of Houston, TX, John L. Packard of Brockton, Thomas E. Packard of Billerica and Catherine M. Ouellette. He was the brother of the late William Packard. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, November 13 at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
