Thomas Gallagher, 92, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, after a period of failing health. Born in Birr, Co. Offaly, Ireland, he was raised and educated in County Offaly. He moved to the United States in 1950 and settled in Stoneham, and later moved to Cambridge. In 1951, he married Elizabeth Neylon and together they spent over 68 years of marriage, before her death in 2019. Tom and Elizabeth moved young their family to Stoughton in 1956, and it has been his home since. For the past several years he was a summer resident of Bourne Scenic Park and enjoyed his daily walks along the Cape Cod Canal. Tom was a longtime employee of Boston Gas and retired in 1992 as a Crew Leader. He was a longtime member of the Steel Workers Union. A lover of animals, Tom, in his free time, enjoyed dancing, Irish music, gardening, and spending time with his beloved family.
Tom is survived by his children; Catherine B. Capellupo and her husband Freddie of Raynham, Patricia A. Runey and her husband Frank of Pembroke, Thomas M. Gallagher, Jr. and his wife Mona of Stoughton, Michael J. Gallagher of NH and Nancy E. Pires and her husband Mark of Easton. He was predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters and is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, September 28th at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday, September 27th from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom‘s memory may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
