Thomas F. Herr

Thomas F. "Red" Herr, 85, died peacefully at Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton on Monday, March 3 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of 59 years of the late Barbara A. (McCormack) Herr. Born in Boston, he was raised in South Boston and Dorchester and educated in Boston schools. He was a resident of Stoughton for 45 years before moving to North Attleboro 2 years ago. Mr. Herr was a member of "The Greatest Generation" having served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a construction manager at Verizon in South Boston for 33 years until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the NRA, Past President for 3 years of the Stoughton Fish & Game and a member of the Stoughton Conservation Committee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking while teaching these skills to his children.

Mr. Herr is survived by his children, Diane Carroll and her husband F. Russell of N. Attleboro, Karen Brennan of Warwick, RI and her late husband George, Thomas Herr and his wife Michelle of Stoughton and Joanne Benner and her husband William, Jr. of East Bridgewater. He was the brother of John Herr of Quincy and the late Joseph Herr, Louise Kelley and Mary Vahey. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, March 6 at 9:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Due to floral restrictions at the cemetery, donations in Tom's memory may be sent to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
