Thomas Paul Durgin, 65, a longtime resident of Sharon, died on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton, Massachusetts. He was the husband of Patricia M. (McKinnon) Durgin to whom he was married on October 22, 1972.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 30, 1949, he was the eldest son of the late Margaret (Hunter) Durgin Snedeker and brother of the late David M. Durgin. He moved to Stoughton as a child and was a graduate of Stoughton High School. He proudly served in the United States Army as a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment, recipient of two Bronze Stars, one with a V for valor and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 89 in Stoughton.
Following his military service, Mr. Durgin resided in Stoughton and Mansfield until settling in Sharon with his wife in 1979. Mr. Durgin worked as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Sharon and Foxborough until his retirement.
Mr. Durgin was a lifelong sportsman dedicated to conservationism. He always treasured time spent with nature. Walking through the woods and by the water, hunting and fishing gave him great happiness and peace. His love of and remarkable relationships with his hunting dogs was something special and envied by many. However, he will be most remembered for the love he showed his family.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, he leaves two children: Michelle Walsh and her husband Damien of Quincy, Massachusetts and Thomas William Durgin and his girlfriend, Kimberly McGrath, of Sharon, Massachusetts; a brother: Paul Durgin and his wife Kerry of Sandwich, Massachusetts; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and members of his wife's family.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, December 1, at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Sharon at 10:00 AM. Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, November 30 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors will be at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Mr. Durgin's name to the New England Center and Home for the Veterans, 17 Court St, Boston, MA 02108.
