Steven Liponis, a resident of Canton for 38 years, died at his home on Sunday, August 26 after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Marilyn (Ricard) Liponis. Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Portland High School, Class of 1949 in Portland, ME and University of Southern Maine at Gorham, Class of 1954. Mr. Liponis served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Dix for 2 years during the Korean Conflict. He then worked for the Dept. of Defense as an English teacher at the Army Airbase in Chateau Roux, France from 1961-1962. Following that he was an Industrial Arts teacher at East Bridgewater High School for 11 years. Mr. Liponis then worked as Manager and Vice President of Northeast Tractor Trailer School in Methuen from 1984 until he fell ill in January, 2006. In his free time he volunteered at the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in Braintree. He was an avid tennis player at Dedham Racquet Club for 30 years until his illness.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Liponis is survived by his children, Thomas Liponis of Stoneham and Ruth Bertone and her husband Paul of Cambridge, England, as well as his granddaughter, Sofia Bertone. He was the brother of Charles Liponis of Andover, Christy Liponis of Portsmouth, NH, Mary Liponis of Derry, NH and the late Angelo Liponis. He is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, August 30 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Service at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Brockton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Melrose Cemetery in Brockton.
