Stephen James Ross, 71, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston on Thursday, December 6, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Karen J. (Hansen) Ross for 47 years. Son of the late Francis P. "Frank" and Bernadette P. (Neville) Ross, he was born in Boston and raised in Mattapan. Stephen was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. He then joined the U.S. Air Force, where he was a Sergeant and Veteran of the Vietnam War. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves for many years, retiring as a Major. After serving in the Air Force, Stephen graduated from Laboure College School of Nursing and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from UMass-Boston. He was a registered nurse, working in the Operating Room at the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury for over 30 years before retiring at age 62. He then worked in the Operating Room at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton for 5 years. Stephen was an avid Boston sports fan and a longtime season ticket holder for the Patriots. His greatest joy was family vacations and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by his children, Nicole J. McMahon and her husband Paul, Erin J. Arsenault and her husband Phil and Stephen J. Ross, Jr. and his wife Jennifer all of West Bridgewater. He was the grandfather of Abigail, Emma, Sean, Brayden, Ross, Caroline and Noelle. He was the brother of Deborah Swift and Maribeth McAskill both of Marshfield, Francis "Paul" Ross, Jr. of Naples, FL, Carla Coombs of Holbrook, Michael Ross of Mansfield and Nora Hixon of Norwood. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, December 11 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Milton Cemetery, Milton.
