Stephen J. Joyce, 65, died Sunday, January 7, at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of 27 years of Judith A. (Tenore) Joyce. Born in Boston, he was raised in Brockton and was a graduate of Brockton Schools. Mr. Joyce worked as a Lieutenant for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections in Bridgewater for 26 years. He retired 2 years ago. Prior to that, he was the former owner of the ARCO Station in Brockton and also worked at the Plymouth Power Plant. Mr. Joyce was a member of the Order of Elks in Taunton and the Mitchell Club in Middleboro. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, ice fishing and working on cars.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Stephen J. of W. Bridgewater, Deborah A. Sheehan of Carver, Laura D. Joyce of E. Taunton, Denise Logan of Brockton, Jennifer Kingsbury of RI and the late Michael Joyce. He was the brother of Joseph Joyce Jr. of NH and Elizabeth Amelotte of Brockton. Steve is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, January 11 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Family Church, E. Taunton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday 5-8 PM. Burial will follow at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
