Sidney H. Katzman, 80, Doctor of Optometry, died at Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home in Stoughton, MA on Wednesday, June 13. One of the founders of the Optometric Institute and Clinic of Detroit, Inc. which, over the past 45 years, provided vision and special needs services to the indigent and low vision population of the citizens of Detroit.
Dr. Katzman served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force prior to entering civilian practice. He spent the majority of his professional career on the medical staff of Metro Medical Group and later Ford Hospital in the Detroit area.
He is deeply missed by his fellow professionals, the many patients he cared for so much, and his family.
Dr. Katzman is survived by his children, Cynthia M. Katzman and her husband John Bowlby of Stoughton, Michael S. Katzman and his wife Judith of OK and Patricia D. Katzman of Newton; 3 grandchildren, David and Sarah Bowlby and Jesamine Katzman; 2 great-grandchildren, John and Emily Bowlby; his brother, Paul Katzman of MI; his niece, Amy Katzman and his nephew and his wife, Steve and Cheri Katzman and their daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Gertrude "Gerry" (Rotter) Katzman and his former wife, Mary Floy (Schulz) Katzman.
As an eye doctor, he helped thousands to see – as our father, he shared his vision.
