Shirley V. (Van Putten) Webbe, 85, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was the wife of 65 years of Sydney O. Webbe. Born and raised in Devonshire, Bermuda, she was a graduate of Devonshire schools, The Berkeley Institute in Pembroke, and was also a graduate of nursing school. Shirley married Sydney Webbe in 1958 and moved to the United States in 1966. They raised their family in Canton, before moving to Brockton in 1986. She was a dedicated homemaker, wife, and mother who also worked as a home health aide for Jewish Family and Children Services for many years. Shirley was a devoted member of the Faith Baptist Church in Stoughton and served as the head deaconess and Sunday School superintendent for many years as well as being a member of the choir. Shirley loved music, singing, sewing, reading, and cooking, but the time she loved the most was being surrounded by her beloved family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Sydney F. Webbe and his wife Veronica of Brockton, Sherma D. Webbe Clarke and her husband Ricardo of Bermuda, and Shelbey D. Wright and her husband Rev. David Wright of Hyde Park. She was the sister of the late Sinclair Van Putten (Emily), Edmund Van Putten, and Cecil Van Putten (Joan). Shirley was the devoted Nana of Siobhan Brangman, Nathan Wright, Micah Wright, Keziah Webbe, and Elizabeth Wright. She is also survived by her great grandson, Camron Wright, and several nieces and nephews, including Cynthia Jones of Bermuda.
