Shirley G. Powell, 89, died Thursday, August 27, 2009, at the Mashpee Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mashpee. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mabel Powell. Born in Brockton, she was raised in Stoughton and a graduate of Stoughton Schools. Ms. Powell was a WWII Veteran of the Woman's Army Corps. She worked as a Social Worker for the Town of Stoughton for 20 years and then the Town of Randolph for about 20 years. She retired in 1985. Ms. Powell was a resident of East Sandwich for over 20 years.
She was the sister of the late William Powell. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: William S. Powell of East Sandwich, Kent Powell of Marstons Mills, Amanda Galanis of Stoughton and the late Bruce Powell. She was the great aunt of Marc, Keith, Greg, Bill, Kerry and Kristin Powell and Courtney, Allison and Samantha Galanis. She was the great great aunt of J.J. Young. She was the cousin of Audrey Weatherbee of Brockton.
Funeral service will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Sunday, August 30 at 5 PM. Visiting Hours prior to services from 2-5 PM. Donations in Shirley's name may be made to MSPCA, 1300 West Elm St. Ext, Brockton, 02301.
