Shirley F. (Beers) Howell, 85, a longtime resident of Canton, passed away with her family by her side at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston on Monday, August 17 after a brief illness. Born and raised in Needham, she was a graduate of Needham High School and Newton-Wellesley Hospital School. She was a resident of Canton for 36 years after living in Stoughton for many years. Mrs. Howell was a registered nurse at Goddard Memorial Hospital in Stoughton for 16 before retiring in 1980. She was a member of F.I.S.H.(Friends in Service to Humanity) and was past Treasurer for over 10 years. She was a past member of the Legion Auxiliary in Needham. She was a Canton Republican Town Committee member for many years.
Mrs. Howell will be lovingly remembered by 7 children, Ellen (Howell) Leathers and her husband John and Judith (Tyler) Boucher and her husband Robert both of Stoughton, William Howell and his wife Barbara and Steven Tyler and his wife Jill both of NE, Sharyn (Tyler) Meehan and her husband Thomas of NH, Deborah Tyler of Canton and Beverly (Howell) Hardcastle and her husband Philip of Salem, 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday, August 21 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-7 PM. Donations in Shirley's name may be made to American Heart Assn., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
