Ruth O. (Raby) Pappas, 89, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 under the care of Altus Hospice, at the Gardens of Roswell in Roswell, GA, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late George Pappas. Born in Brockton, she was a longtime resident of Stoughton and a graduate of Stoughton Schools, class of 1937. Mrs. Pappas was a resident of Georgia for over 2 years, previously living in Florida for many years. She worked as a Receptionist for Dr. Tyer in Stoughton for over 9 years and also was the former owner of the Randolph News Store in Randolph for 6 years. She retired many years ago. Mrs. Pappas was very active at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Stoughton. She was a member of the Vestry, Past President of the Friendship Club and the Past Superintendent of the Sunday School. She was also active with Girl Scouts at the Trinity Episcopal Church. Mrs. Pappas was a member of the IOOF Rebekah Lodge in Stoughton and was the Past District Deputy of the Rebekah Lodge in Quincy. In her later years, she was a member of the emergency team at Park Royale in Pinellas Park, FL. In her free time, she enjoyed needlework and crocheting.
She is survived by her three daughters: Angela C. Pappas of GA, Sophia M. Crawford of TX and Georgia-Ruth "Dolly" Vera of W. Yarmouth. She was the sister of Charlotte Nelson of VT and the late Ernestine Fontinha and Dorothy Holmes. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 414 Sumner St., Stoughton on Tuesday, March 17 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Monday from 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
