Russell Martin Benson age 83, passed away on April 20, 2022 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Mary Winifred (Dzengelewski) and Rudolph Martin Benson. He was the devoted husband to Alice (McArdle) Benson for over 30 loving years. He attended Northeastern University earning his Bachelor's Degree and graduating in 1960. He then went on to work for Polaroid as a Civil Engineer and a Training and Development Manager and stayed with the company for 25+ years, retiring at age 57. Before his retirement, he attended Lesley College and earned his Master's Degree in Training and Development, graduating in 1996. He was an avid tennis player and loved to golf. One of his biggest passions was photography. You could find the thousands of pictures he photographed displayed in his home, showcasing his talent and love for the hobby. Russ was a longtime member of Waltham Raquet Club for many years. He also loved working in his yard, tending to the garden, and could be found outside most of the time at home.
In addition to his wife Alice, he is survived by his children Lisa Rodrick and her husband Jim of Bourne, Mark Benson and his wife Beverly of Bourne, Steven Benson and his partner Jeanne Kerr of Uxbridge and David Benson and his wife Sarah of Rochester. He is also survived by his grandchildren Peter, Michael, Christina, Annamarie, Stelliana and Elijah. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Benson, and also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt. 27), Stoughton on Friday April 29th from 9-10 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, 560 Page Street Stoughton at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Russ' memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1120, Framingham, MA 01701.
