Rosemary G. (Richards) Higginson, 93, a resident of Quincy, died unexpectedly at Hancock Park Nursing Center in Quincy on Tuesday, August 30. She was the wife of the late William H. Higginson. Born in Boston, she was a graduate of Hyde Park High School, Class of 1935 and Boston City Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1939. She was a resident of Quincy for 24 years after living in Brockton for 40 years. Mrs. Higginson was a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and a Veteran of World War II. She was the owner of Happy Hours Nursery School in Brockton with her dear friend Anna Greene from 1950-1968. She also was a Registered Nurse, working at Braemoor Nursing Home in Brockton as well as private duty. She was a volunteer at St. Paul's Soup Kitchen in Brockton for many years. In her free time she loved to read, cook, golf and party.
Mrs. Higginson is survived by her daughter, Beverly Joyce of Quincy, as well as 2 granddaughters, Marianne DiGiammo Claffey of Hull and Suzanne DiGiammo Rayberg of Braintree. She was the great-grandmother of Ryan Higginson, Arianna Hibbard and Kyle Burke. She was the sister of Lois Roche of Quincy and the late Robert Richards and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, September 3 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater. Donations in Rosemary's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Assn., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
