Rose Marie (Montanari) Northway, 95, died peacefully at the Life Care Center in West Bridgewater on Friday, March 3, 2017. She was the wife of the late Joseph Northway and the loving daughter of the late Massimiliano "Max" Montanari and Mary (Farioli) Montanari. Rose was also a cherished sister to the late Virginia Moriarty Ledford, Henry Montanari and Mary Allocca. She was a longtime resident in Jamaica Plain until 1990. She then moved to Stoughton and lived there for 26 years until she needed more assistance 11 months ago.
Rose attended the Teacher's College of the City of Boston and after graduation, she taught elementary school in the Boston school district. Her passion was traveling. During school vacations she would travel near and far. When she returned from her excursions, she would show her slides and tell of her adventures. Rose also loved to read and she would sit for hours with a good book and a cat on her lap.
Mrs. Northway did not have any children, but is survived by her many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street, (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, March 13 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass at the Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Interment will follow the Mass and take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 990 LaGrange Street, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org or mail a donation to 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
