Rosalina Lopes Bettencourt, 94, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton on Thursday, January 10, 2019. Born April 15th, 1924 in Rosais, São Jorge, Açores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio Silveira Lopes and Olinda Silveira Lopes, the sister of the late Maria Simas Lopes, João Lopes and Antonio Lopes, and the wife of the late Manuel Maria Bettencourt. She came to the United States in 1970, settling in Stoughton. Rosalina was a talented seamstress who sewed for her friends, family, neighbors, and community. Known for her skillfully crafted quilts, pajamas, dresses, and gowns, she was actively crocheting winter hats for her great-grandchildren a month before her passing. She enjoyed gardening and traditional Portuguese cooking, baking and culture. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Rosalina is survived by her children, Maria do Carmo Avelar and her husband João of Watsonville, CA, Gorette Bettencourt Arruda and her husband Manny, Jr. of Cumberland, RI, Angela Bettencourt Côté and her husband Donald of Old Orchard Beach, ME and Pedro Manuel Bettencourt of Stoughton. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Marline, Melanie, Jillian, Aaron, Natasha, Matthew, Nicholas and Eric and her great-grandchildren Sophia, Annabel, Patrick, Emery, Easton, Jack and Scarlett and by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, January 17 at 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 11:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
