Roque J.J. Abalsamo, 97, a longtime resident of Jamaica Plain, died peacefully at the Stonehedge Health Care Center in West Roxbury on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. He was the husband of the late Julita (Echeverria) Abalsamo. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he was a resident of Jamaica Plain since 1972. Mr. Abalsamo was a civil engineer in Argentina for over 30 years. He became a writer after moving to Jamaica Plain and published several books.
Mr. Abalsamo is survived by his daughter, Angela Arai and her husband Shohachi of Hanover, as well as his daughter-in-law Miriam Abalsamo of Chino Hills, CA. He was preceded in death by his son, Roque I.J. Abalsamo. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roque's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
