Roland J. Parenteau, of Stoughton, died on April 8, 2017 at 90 years old. He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. (Cushing) Parenteau. They were married for 52 years. Roland was born in Plainville, MA, one of eight children. He was the brother of the late Hector, Albert, Leo, Roger and Lena Parenteau, Cecelia Walters and Anita Thiebault. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving family and friends.
Roland attended Boston School for the Deaf. He worked for several local companies as a carpenter before establishing his own business, doing home repairs and renovations. After his retirement, Roland continued to use his talent as a carpenter, creating homemade wooden lawn and garden decorations that he sold from their Central Street home in Stoughton.
Roland and Shirley loved Christmas. Every year they would transform their home into a Christmas Wonderland, both inside and out. Every room was decorated with displays that Roland and Shirley created. On Christmas Eve they opened their home, serving dinner to throngs of family and friends.
Funeral Prayers will be offered from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roland's memory may be made to the Copley at Stoughton Activities Fund, 380 Sumner St., Stoughton, MA 02072, where Roland was a resident the past few years. He truly enjoyed participating in the crafts and activities offered by the Copley Activities Staff.
