Robert E. McLaughlin, 87, passed away Monday, May 8, 2006 at the Boston VA Healthcare Center in West Roxbury. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Broderick) McLaughlin. Born in Revere, he was raised in Lynn and Revere and a graduate of Revere Schools. Mr. McLaughlin was a WWII Veteran of the US Army. A Tech Sergeant in the 398th Infantry, 100th Division, Mr. McLaughlin was awarded numerous medals for his service including the American Theater Ribbon, the EAME Ribbon with 2 battle stars, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Victory Medal. He was a P.O.W. during WWII. Mr. McLaughlin worked as an Optician at Mass Eye & Ear in Boston for 31 years, retiring at age 62. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV and Knights of Columbus all in Stoughton. A member of Cedar Hill Golf Course, he enjoyed golfing in his free time.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary E. Rego and her husband Ron of N. Attleboro, Maureen A. Scala and her husband George and Kathleen all of Stoughton. He was predeceased by his sister Geraldine Spring. Mr. McLaughlin is also survived by his grandson Georgie.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-8 PM. Donations in Robert's name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
