Robert L. Lynch

Robert L. Lynch Sr., 87, of Mashpee, formerly of Stoughton, died suddenly on November 25th 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Evelyn F. (McDonald) Lynch for 62 years.
Born in Cambridge, he grew up in Providence, R.I. and Stoughton. He graduated from St. Phillips Preparatory High School in Boston, received his B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross in 1947 and received his M.A. from Boston College in 1948.
He taught ancient history, starting at Kingston High School, Ware High School and later moving to Stoughton High School where he taught for 28 years from 1955 until retiring in 1983.
He continued working as an affiliate for the Museum of Fine Arts for 5 years. He then retired to Seconsett Island in Mashpee.
Additionally, he had a distinguished career in the military starting with enlistment in World War II in the Army Artillery from 1943-1945. He received 5 battle stars for participating in the Battles at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes. He was also a recipient of the Croix de Guerre, a French medal of honor. After college, he served in Germany for five years with Army Intelligence until 1954. He was re-commissioned in the U.S. Army reserves, retiring as a Major in 1974.
He had a passion for reading, for history, and a love of travel. He was a member of the Holy Cross Club of Cape Cod, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the Mass. Teachers Assn.
In addition to his wife, he leaves; his son Robert L. Lynch Jr. and his partner Dianne Brace of Washington, D.C.; his son Atty. Roger A. Lynch and his wife Lindsey Fletcher-Lynch of Ashfield, Ma.; his son Dr. Donald J. Lynch and his wife Leslie Carney Lynch of Ipswich, Ma.; his daughter Sarah-Ann Lynch and her husband Dr. Kevin Healy of Potomac, Md.; and his grandchildren, Molly, Ian, Lauren, Hilary and Hannah Lynch, Mariah, Garrett, and Dylan Healy.
Visiting hours will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street, (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, November 29 from 9-10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton. Donations in Robert's name may be made to the Scholarship Fund at the Cape Cod Chapter of the MOAA, PO Box 1553, Mashpee, MA 02649-1553.
