Robert C. "Buddy/Bob" Haynes, 77, of Boylston, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. He was born in Boston, the son of the late Clifford E. and Evelyn (Jenne) Haynes. He leaves his wife, Judith, of 55 years, daughter Cheryl, son Kendall and his wife Susanne Haynes, granddaughter Jasmine and grandson, Air Force Cpt. Dustin Haynes and great-grandchildren Damian and Lincoln Bibb. Bob was predeceased by a brother, Clifford, Jr. and a sister, Carole Haynes Erich.
Following Stoughton High School graduation in 1956, Bob entered and served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1960. He married Judith Standish in 1961 and began his education at Bridgewater State Teachers College. He went on to graduate school at the University of New Hampshire and received both a Master's and PhD in Biology, focusing on freshwater ecology. Bob spent a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, where he studied the saline lakes of Saskatchewan. He taught for 12 years at Sangamon State U., which is now Univ. of Illinois, Springfield. He completed a 1 year sabbatical at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. After tiring of the "cornfields, soybeans and flat lands" he happily returned to the trees and curvy roads of Massachusetts, where he worked for the Commonwealth of Mass. as a fresh water ecologist from 1984-1999.
Once retired, he and Judy traveled to China, Australia and nearly all continents on the globe. He was active with the restoration of an historic Boylston barn, played golf and relaxed listening to classical music.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, March 12 at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 4-7 PM. Interment will be at Dry Pond Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Assn., 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
