Robert G. Cushing, Sr., 80, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died Sunday, November 26 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of 51 years of D. Ann (Williams) Cushing. Born in Stoughton, he was a graduate of Stoughton Schools. Mr. Cushing was a Retired Teamster from Locals 25 and 653. In addition, he was a Trustee and Retired Superintendent of Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton. After his retirement, he worked at the Town Spa in Stoughton for many years. A Veteran of the US Army during the Korean Conflict, he was involved in many area organizations including The Easton Rod & Gun Club, The American Legion Post 89 and Amvets Post 1977 both in Stoughton, the Canton Town Club, King Philip Shrine Club in Plainville, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite in Boston, and the Cawnacome Sunshine Lodge in Monument Beach. In addition, he was the Past Armorer for the Stoughton Grenadiers, the Master of the Rising Star Lodge in Stoughton and an Aleppo Shriner in Wilmington. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, camping and was a fan of NASCAR and football.
In addition to his wife Ann, he is survived by his three children, Kathy MacEachern and her husband Bob of Stoughton, Robert G. Cushing, Jr. of Buzzards Bay and Kevin J. Cushing of Marion. He was the beloved Grandfather of Colleen MacEachern and Neil MacEachern. Mr. Cushing was the brother of Burton Cushing of W. Roxbury, Edith Woodard of CT, Helen Estabrooks and Harvey Cushing both of FL, Shirley Parenteau of Stoughton and the late Franklin Cushing. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, November 30 at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday 4-8. Masonic Service will take place at 7 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.
