Robert A. Couras, 82, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023, at his home in Stoughton, after battling cancer for years. Born in Cambridge, he was raised and educated in Somerville and attended Somerville Schools. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, serving from January 1963 until December of 1965. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and continued his schooling before joining the Teamsters Local 25. In 1966, he married Vera Masci at St. Benedict’s Church in Somerville and, together, they have spent the past 57 years together and raised their 5 beloved children. He was a resident of Stoughton for the past 4 years. He was a longtime member of the Teamsters and was an employee of US Foods in Everett for many years before retiring 20 years ago. Bob enjoyed making people laugh and was known as a practical joker to friends and family. He enjoyed morning coffee with his wife, busting chops, walking with his dog Tinkerbell, gardening, classic movies, history, Boston sports, puzzles, games and spending time with loved ones.
In addition to his wife Vera, he is survived by his children, Barbara Couras and Valerie Couras and her partner Ross Golen, all of Stoughton, Deanna Goodson and her husband John and David Couras and his wife Morgan, all of TX, and Robert A. Couras and his partner Erin Chadoin of OK. He was the brother of Rose Beaulieu of Hudson and the late Beverly Phillips and Patricia Pagliuca. He was the brother-in-law of Edward Phillips of ME and Edward Pagliuca of Hudson. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 11 AM followed by burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:30 PM. Visiting Hours Monday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to Dana- Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
