Robert J. Campbell, "Uncle Bob," 87, died peacefully at his daughter's home in Cummaquid on Tuesday, October 18. He was the husband of the late Kathleen M. (Martin) Campbell, his loving wife of 54 years. Born in Roxbury, he was a graduate of Boston Latin School. Mr. Campbell was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. As a Staff Sergeant with the 505th Regiment, he parachuted into Normandy on D-Day. He also took part in Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge. Robert retired from the MBTA over 30 years ago. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 50 years before moving to Cape Cod. He was an avid Boston sports fan, but loved nothing more than his family.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his children, Jo-Anne McPartlan and her husband Francis of Cummaquid, Bruce Campbell and his fiancé Donna Dooley of Canton, Robert J. Campbell, Jr. of Stoughton and Brad J. Campbell and his wife Cheri of Marstons Mills. He was the brother of the late Walter V. Campbell and the late Barbara A. Duggan and her husband Thomas, and brother-in-law of Eileen P. Campbell of Stoughton. He was the loving "Papa" to 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and dear uncle of Claire & Nick Harris of Hyannis, Keith & Katie Glynn and Edward Petrides.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Monday, October 24 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 2-6 PM. Interment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
