Rita T. (Kelly) Dion, 89, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. She was the wife of the late Philip G. Dion for 70 years. Daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Sullivan) Kelly, she was born in Boston and raised in Jamaica Plain. Rita was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School and Massasoit Community College. She was a resident of Stoughton for the past 67 years. Mrs. Dion was a secretary at Norfolk Agricultural School in Walpole for 15 years before retiring at age 65. An avid art lover, she also enjoyed traveling, reading and painting and she was a lover of all animals. Rita had a fun-loving and optimistic outlook on life that radiated into everything she embraced and to those around her. She was a central figure to her family with whom she shared a lifetime of joy and happiness. Rita was dearly loved and will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Rita is survived by her daughters, Andrea R. Dion-Purdy of Attleboro and her late husband David Purdy, Lynette C. Dion and Michele C. Dion and her husband Gerard Walsh all of Stoughton. She was the sister of Theresa Donnelly of Rockland and the late Marie Mahoney, Irene Boudrot and Margaret Petryko. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, October 24 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's memory may be made to Neponset Valley Humane Society, PO Box 544, Norwood, MA 02062.
