Richard G. Sementelli, Jr., 60, a Lieutenant on the Massachusetts State Police, died Monday, January 20, 2020. He was the husband of Det. Susan Antonucci-Sementelli (Boston PD) of Canton. Born and raised in Newton, he was a graduate of Newton North High School, Class of 1977. He attended Northeastern University and was a graduate of UMass Boston. He also earned his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Western New England College. Lt. Sementelli was a longtime member of the Massachusetts State Police and was the Station Commander for the South Boston Barracks. Prior to that he worked as a Sergeant and as a Trooper for the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) for over 17 years. He was an avid runner, enjoyed working out and had completed over 35 marathons. He was a fan of NASCAR and enjoyed fishing and golfing with his father and friends at Newton Commonwealth Golf Course. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Rich is survived by his daughters Stephanie G. Sementelli and Angela D. Sementelli both of Canton, and his parents Richard G. Sementelli and Dorothy (Sullivan) Sementelli of Newton. He was the brother of Carol A. Sementelli of Newton, Katherine M. Morreale and her husband Deane of Natick and John R. Sementelli and his wife Jessica of Wayland. Rich was the son in law of Julia Hamilton of E. Boston and the late Gordon Hamilton. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the St. Gerard Majella Church, 1864 Washington St., Canton on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 12:00 Noon. Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, January 23, from 3-7 PM. Interment will take place at Newton Cemetery, Newton.
